Never Stop Learning with Continuing Education Courses
Has anyone ever told you that they are too old to go back to school and pursue continuing education? If so, you can tell
them that they are full of baloney! A 93 year-young woman was recently in the news for finally graduating from college. She
never gave up on her dream of continuing education and eventually succeeded in her goal, even though it took almost eighty
years to do it.
When interviewed by the media, she said that she was even thinking about going to graduate school (at 94 years old!) to
earn her Master’s Degree in education. If that is not motivational to you, nothing is.
The fact of the matter is that you are never too old to learn something new. Learning does not have to stop once you
graduate high school or college: it should keep going until you move on from this life. If you do not use it, you lose it.
That is the case for your brain as well. Pursue continuing education and find that you have the capacity to learn something
new each day.
So, if you are ready to get starting on your continuing education path, start now. Even if you have to start slow, that is
better than doing nothing and letting your brain go to mush. Search on the World Wide Web for courses that interest you.
They can be ones that require very little of your time, money and energy. However, if it will get you interested in learning,
it will be worth it.
Or, you can call your local college or university to find out more about the selection of continuing education courses they
offer each month. Most colleges have a vast selection of programs that you can choose from that will interest you and
provide you with the educational stimulation your brain craves. You can even learn a new hobby like writing, genealogy or
painting!
You can even go all out and pursue your continuing education degree. Colleges have many flexible degree options these days:
from online courses to evening classes to classes that meet on the weekends. If you can dream it, there is probably an
Associates, Bachelors or Master’s degree program that will fit into your schedule and lifestyle.
So get up and get started today. There are no more excuses and once you get started, you will find that education can be an
amazing thing and that you have so much more potential and intelligence than you ever thought possible.
Make the first step by calling a friend or relative and tell them of your plans. If you tell someone else, they can make
you accountable and make sure you follow through with your plans. You cannot have excuses if they won’t let you off the hook.
Believe it; you will thank them in the end. You will forget what your life was like without constant education and
coursework. And your life will be happier and richer because of continuing education.

Barriers Within the Educational System
Barriers exist within all forms in the education system, these barriers can be internal or external. A lot of times teachers are been blamed for poor performance by students and this is said to be caused by the fact that these teachers lack technological resources in the classroom. However I strongly uphold that their are various barriers that cause these teachers to teach without implementing technology.
Some of these barriers include: The availability of resources, The relevance of these resources and the skills and competence of teachers that use these resources.

Educational Technology
'Every Child Can Learn, Every Child Must Learn!
Mr. Daley
|
Every child can learn and have a special ability, they must learn. As a teacher, It is our role to be effective, positive, passionate and articulate with my pedagogical skills, and most importantly my character. It was said that 'teaching is not a profession, but a calling' (anonymous), therefore I will dedicate my self towards setting firm goals and objectives for myself and my students that we will achieve together. I will teach with such quality to captivate my students each time I enter the classroom, I will become their role model and where necessary, make other teachers 'take a page out of my book' as you read along in this digital portfolio.
The children of the 21st century are actively engaged in the use of technology, they see books as 'enemies' and the computer and other technological gadgets as their 'best friends'. It is not their fault why they are like this. Times have changed, technology has improved drastically and there are various types of media that grab s their attention whenever they get in contact. The 'meat of the matter' is that as teachers we must develop the necessary skills to impart meaningful knowledge with the use of technology within our lessons. According to the website ncrel.org it was said that 'a decade ago, access to technology was limited and wiring schools was one of the nation's highest education priorities' the website practically informs that technology in schools today is vital and it improves students skills and leaning capabilities. I strongly believe that every teacher should be equipped with the the skills and resources necessary to incorporate technology to these young minds that crave for it. Technology should be incorporated in education to enhance the teaching and learning process, it is a very good tool to attract students especially with subject areas that they consider boring.Visit this link for more on education Click Here!
If teachers do not know how to utilize technology within their classrooms. They should take an initiative to research and become aware of the benefits of technology in their lessons, after which various measures should be taken to implement these technologies using the necessary resources available at the schools. If our 'nowadays' children are so technologically driven, why not just follow the trend and made them comfortable learning the way they want to. Since they are the future and we must, as teachers make it bright and beautiful for them. As a student of Church Teacher's College: Mandeville, I have been enrolled in the Educational Technology Course from January 2013. I must say it has truly impacted on my character and content as a teacher in training. During my practicum exercise I utilized most of what I have learnt in the course thus far. Various tools such as interactive power points and videos that helped to introduce my lessons and explain important points to students.

ISTE and NETS Standards
ISTE developed the NETS with input from the field and pioneered their use among educators.
The National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) are the standards for learning, teaching, and leading in the digital age and are widely recognized and adopted worldwide.
Why are these standards important?
Technology has forever changed not only what we need to learn, but the way we learn. The NETS set a standard of excellence and best practices in learning, teaching, and leading with technology in education. The benefits of using the NETS include:
- Improving higher-order thinking skills, such as problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity
- Preparing students for their future in a competitive global job market
- Designing student-centered, project-based, and online learning environments
- Guiding systemic change in our schools to create digital places of learning
- Inspiring digital age professional models for working, collaborating, and decision making

Over the years was recognized that technology has improved drastically. These advancements are observed by students, teachers and the rest of society. It is therefore vital that all teachers in the educational system of Jamaica must be technologically educated.
I enrolled in the Educational Technology course from January 2013 at Church Teachers' College : Mandeville and I must say it has truly been a wonderful, exciting and memorable experience. The importance of this course cannot be exempted at any institution. Reason been is that it helped me to enhance my technological skills in computing by using programs such as Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel just to name a few.I also participated in online discussions which was very interesting and beneficial to my holistic development.
I must say thanks to my Lecturer Mrs. Crawford for delivering the content in such a meaningful way for me to understand and learn at a fast rate.
